The city of Olathe and the Olathe Police Department would like to make the public aware of a possible Telephone Scam that could be occurring within the city.
The Olathe Police Department was contacted Tuesday, July 10 by a local business owner who had received a telephone call from an unknown person who said they were with the city of Olathe Water Department. The caller told the business owner his water would be shut off due to late payment unless he made immediate payment by credit card over the phone.
An Olathe spokesperson said that normal business hours for the water department are from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and a credit card payment would not be requested over the phone.
Anyone with questions or concerns about the validity of a call, should simply ask to call the city back at 971-8600.
