Commercial vehicle checks today

The Olathe Police Department today, Wednesday, April 3, in conjunction with the KHP Motor Carrier Assistance Program, the U.S. Department of Transportation, and the Overland Park Police Department, will conduct a commercial vehicle inspection check lane and saturation patrol in Olathe.

The Olathe Police Department currently utilizes two traffic officers who are full time commercial motor vehicle inspectors certified to enforce federal, state, and local laws relating to the safe operation of commercial vehicles. Since the implementation of the Olathe inspection program in 1999, numerous unsafe vehicles and/or drivers have been placed out of service for critical safety violations.

At the upcoming check lane inspectors will thoroughly inspect each commercial vehicle for mechanical defects, brake performance, and proper load securement. Drivers or vehicles that have critical out of service violations will be prohibited from further operation until those violations have been corrected.
