Bike Rodeo a windy success

Despite winds gusting to 40 mph, the annual Bike Rodeo sponsored by the Olathe Fire Department, the Olathe Medical Center, and the Olathe YMCA, and other local businesses and organizations, saw more than 1,500 young bicycle riders take part in the event Sunday, April 14, at the Olathe Medical Center.


Kelsey Smith Foundation Safety Awareness Seminar April 20

The Kelsey Smith Foundation Safety Awareness Seminar has been set for from 10 a.m. to noon, Saturday, April 20, at the Overland Park Church of Christ, 13400 W 119th St, Overland Park.

The seminar will provide cutting edge, real-world information that can be implemented to enhance personal safety for youth, young adults and adults.

The SAS is constantly updated with the newest information and research providing the latest in safety and awareness techniques that work in your daily life.

Greg and Missey Smith from the Foundation will be guest speakers. Please invite your teens, young adults and neighbors to this informative event.

Hair named 2012 National Soccer Coach

Olathe East High School Soccer Coach Terry Hair has been named the 2012 National Soccer Coach of the Year by the National Federation of State High School Activities Associations.Hair’s team finished the 2012 season nationally ranked and the Kansas Class 6A State Champions.


Herman receives certification

Jason Herman, assistant principal and athletic director at Olathe North High School, recently was named a Certified Athletic Administrator.The certification process is a voluntary professional service to athletic administrators and is based on the premises of continuing education, professional growth and program development in the vocation of interscholastic athletic administration.


Dahl wins several awards at Science Fair

Ryan Dahl, a junior at Olathe North High School, recently received several awards at the Kansas State Science and Engineering Fair.

His independent science research project titled “The Effect of E.coli and S. aureus Bacteria on the Activation of Antimicrobial Peptides in Fruit Flies” received the following awards:

  • First place in Division 1 Biochemistry, Medicine and Health category
  • First place from the United States Army Award ($50)
  • Third Place in overall grand award ($200)
