Curtis Gilmore Memorial Scholarship Winner Announced

The Friends of the Olathe Public Library have selected the winner of the Curtis Gilmore Memorial Scholarship, awarded to a high school senior who has worked a minimum of 40 hours as a library volunteer.  The recipient of the $500 scholarship for 2013 is Christina Fangman, an Indian Creek Branch Library volunteer and a graduate of Olathe Northwest High School.  She started volunteering in October 2011and has completed over 90 hours.  She will be attending the University of Kansas in the fall.

The presentation of the award and a reception in Christina’s honor will be held at 5:30 pm, June 24 in the children’s programming room at the Olathe Public Library, 201 E. Park, Olathe.  Friends, family and library staff are invited to attend.

The scholarship was established last year to honor library volunteer Curtis Marion Gordon Gilmore who died February 10, 2007.  He was a senior at Olathe North High School, due to graduate that May.  He donated 116 hours while a volunteer at the library from 2003 – 2005.  He is fondly remembered for his humor, friendliness and commitment to helping others.

The Friends of the Olathe Public Library held the well-attended Novel Tea in April to raise scholarship funds.
