Earmarking the can to kick down the road

If I hear one more congressional numbskull refer to Wednesday night’s congressional approval to fund the federal government and avert a government default as “kicking the can down the road,” I’m going to scream.

Of all the elected officials from Kansas, only Sen. Jerry Moran and Second District Congresswoman Lynn Jenkins voted yes to re-open the government and increase the debt ceiling so the government wouldn’t default on its payments. Continue reading

Olathe PD prescription drugs take back Oct. 26

The Olathe Police Department and the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) will give the public its seventh opportunity in three years to prevent pill abuse and theft by ridding their homes of potentially dangerous expired, unused, and unwanted prescription drugs.

Bring your medications for disposal from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 26, to Olathe City Hall at 100 E. Santa Fe. The service is free and anonymous, no questions asked. Continue reading

Halloween fun on The Farm

Trick or Treat on the Farm and in the Boooo Barn from 1 to 4 p.m., Oct. 26 and 27 at the National Agricultural Center and Hall of Fame in Bonner Springs.

Cost is $5 per person; members and children under 1 are free.

The Boooo Barn, a kid-friendly haunted barn, will delight and spook children of all ages. Trick or Treat through the historical buildings in FarmTown, enjoy spooky stories, a costume fashion show (at 3:00), farming activities, hayrides, miniature train rides and more! A unique Halloween family tradition!
