JCCC volleyball team third at tourney

The Johnson County Community College volleyball team came away with a third place finish at the NJCAA Division II Volleyball Tournament last weekend in Toledo, Ohio. It marks the fifth time since 2005 JCCC has finished among the top three nationally. JCCC won a national championship in 2005.

Johnson County began the tournament with a 3-0 win over Hagerstown, Community College and followed with a 3-1 win over Des Moines Area Community College later on opening day. In the semifinal round Nov. 22, the Lady Cavaliers fell in four sets to No. 2 seed Parkland College, but rebounded for a 3-1 win over Oakland Community College in the third place match on Nov. 23. Health care aid for low-income Kansans
not ready for prime time

“Ad Astra Per Aspera,” so the state motto of Kansas goes — “To the Stars through Difficulties.”

Most certainly, KanCare recipients have yet to reach “the stars” of low-income state health care.

But it seems the “difficulties” part of the state motto for me and thousands of Kansans has come with dump-truck loads of petty politics — crushing our faith in the gubernatorial leadership of Kansas. Continue reading
