Spreading the message of kindness

The Rachel’s Challenge bullying prevention program and Friends of Rachel Clubs have been active in Olathe’s middle schools since fall 2012, and counselors are still finding new ways to spread the message of kindness.

When Chisholm Trail Middle School counselor Beth Hufnagel heard about the Harlem Ambassadors performance basketball team and its three major messages, she knew they could have a positive impact on her students. The team travels around the world promoting the lessons of staying in school, staying off drugs, and avoiding bullying actions.

“I love all three messages and I hope our students will hear what they had to say and it will leave a lasting impression,” said Hufnagel who is sponsor of the Friends of Rachel Club. Continue reading

Science Night set for April 22

The Olathe Public Schools Science Night features a green theme this year, and even Kermit the Frog would agree it can be easy being green.

The annual free event will be held from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, April 22 at Santa Fe Trail Middle School, 1100 N. Ridgeview Road. A funnel cake food truck will be there all evening, and other concessions will be available from 5:30-6 p.m.

More than 40 family-friendly activities will be available that evening, including snakes, cute critters, Fear Factor foods, plants, robotics, bird feeder activity, rollercoasters, and the KC Cyclones professional futsal players. Continue reading
