Olathe police report that Aeryn Smith, 10, Olathe, who went missing about 5 p.m. Monday, April 20, has been found safe.

Olathe police and Johnson County Sheriff deputies are asking the public’s assistance in locating a missing juvenile.

Aeryn Smith, a white female, 10, 4-10, 87 pounds, sandy brown hair, brown eyes, was last seen walking south from the area of Sheridan and Lennox in Olathe about 5 p.m. Monday, April 20.

Smith has special needs. She was wearing a blue hoody with white flower, black tights and glasses.

Anyone seeing Smith is asked to call 911 immediately.

City Council

The Olathe City Council will meet Tuesday, April 21, at 7 p.m. in the Council Chamber at City Hall for a regular session. City of Olathe recognized for Healthy Communities initiative

The City of Olathe received a 2015 Outstanding Achievement in Innovation Award from the Alliance for Innovation in recognition of the Healthy Communities initiative. 

The City of Olathe Healthy Communities initiative includes the Communities that Care Coalition, Olathe Community Gardens and Get Active Challenge. $5,000 reward offered in gun shop theft

An unknown amount of firearms were stolen around 3 a.m., April 6, at OMB Guns, according to the Olathe Police Department.

When police arrived, they found the front door of the business shattered with numerous firearms stolen from inside.

Surveillance video shows two males, dressed in dark clothing, breaking the glass on the front door and entering the business.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and explosives (ATF) Kansas City Field Division is offering a reward of up to $5,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the suspect(s) in this case.

The ongoing investigation is being conducted by the Olathe Police Department and ATF. Anyone with information regarding this investigation is urged to call the ATF at 1-800-ATF-GUNS (1800-283-4867), the Olathe Police Department at 913-971-6950, or the T.I.P.S Hotline at 816-474-8477.

The sunny side of anthropogenic global warming

Over the past decade, man made global warming, or AGW, has become our culpable cultural credo. All too often, we only focus on the negative side of this much maligned mallody. But as we all know, every dark cloud has a silver lining. Global warming is no exception. If there wasn’t a humorous angle, I’d have nothing to write about. I’d just be sitting here, waiting for the next ice age prediction like the one we barely survived in the 70’s. So lighten up, its not the end of the world.

For years scientists have wrongfully claimed AGW will cause a rise in hurricanes. A new study in the journal Geophysical Research Letters says warmer temperatures will actually decrease the amount of hurricanes each year. Unless you live under a rock, we all know the 700 Club’s Pat Robertson said hurricanes are caused by homosexuals. So take a deep breath, gays, here’s your upside. Fewer hurricanes equal less homophobic finger pointing.

And we get more summer. That means less men die shoveling snow. Less broken hips, less car crashes on the ice. See, it’s looking better already. Continue reading
