Blue Valley School District will be starting a search for a new superintendent after Tom Trigg announced his departure Monday.

After 19 years in the district — 11 as superintendent — Trigg will step down to lead Highland Park School District, a small district just north of Dallas.

In the 19 years Trigg has been with Blue Valley, it has opened 13 new schools, had success in the CAPS program and achieved the highest ACT and SAT test scores in the metro area. In 2014, the Kansas City Business Journal ranked Blue Valley the No. 3 district in the area, behind Olathe and Shawnee Mission.
