Heat is the number one weather-related killer according to the National Weather Service. It kills more people each year than tornadoes, hurricanes, floods and lightning combined. In response to today’s excessive heat warning from the NWS, the Olathe Fire Department’s Office of Emergency Management and Olathe Public Library announce that the libraries are available as cooling centers. The centers (libraries) offer people temporary relief from the heat. Anyone who stops by a center, to cool off, is encouraged to bring necessary, personal items like medicines, ready-to-eat snacks, etc.
The centers are Olathe’s two public libraries, which are available during regular business hours:
Olathe Main Library (201 E. Park Street), enter through the main entrance.
Monday, 9 am to 8:30 pm
Indian Creek Branch (12990 S. Black Bob)
Monday, 10 am to 8:30 pm
