Olathe’s 2015 waste diversion rate hits record high
Olathe residents continue diverting more waste from the landfill. The City of Olathe waste diversion rate for 2015 is 43.88 percent, up from 41.10 percent in 2014 and 38.29 percent in 2013. The national average is 34.50 percent.

“Olathe residents are making greater efforts to keep recyclable waste out of landfills,” said Kent Seyfried, City of Olathe Solid Waste Manager. “This allows us to keep trash and recycling rates at a reasonable price for our customers. When we increase our waste diversion rate, we spend less on the cost of waste disposal.” Continue reading

Mahaffie 150th Gala Saturday, Feb. 20

The Mahaffie Stagecoach Stop and Farm Foundation invites the public to celebrate 150 years at the Mahaffie House on Saturday, Feb. 20 from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. with a special 150th Gala. Tickets are $75/person, $600 for a table of eight, and sponsorships are available. Ticket sales are limited to the first 150 registrants. Purchase your tickets at Mahaffie.org or call 913-971-5111. All proceeds will go to the preservation of the Mahaffie House. Attire will be semi-formal or 19th century formal wear.

City of Olathe named 2016 Healthiest Employer
For the second year in a row, the City of Olathe has been named one of the healthiest employers in Kansas City by the Kansas City Business Journal. The City of Olathe joins Henderson Engineers, Inc., Kansas City Area Transportation Authority, MRIGlobal, and Nabholz Construction in the 250-999 employees category. The top-scoring organization is each size category will be announced at a luncheon on Tuesday, Feb. 9.

Public invited to annual MLK Celebration on Sunday, Jan. 17

Olatheans and residents throughout the Kansas City metropolitan area are invited to join the Olathe Human Relations Commission (OHRC) to celebrate the legacy of Martin Luther King Jr. on Sunday, Jan. 17. The annual Martin Luther King (MLK) Celebration will be held from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the new Olathe Conference Center by Embassy Suites, located at K-10 and Ridgeview Rd.
