District Math Coordinator Nancy Hughes and Assistant Superintendent of Teaching and Learning Jessica Dain will conduct evening meetings in April to help parents of fifth-graders understand their child’s middle and high school math course options.
“We will focus on changes in the Kansas College and Career Standards which have caused us to realign our math acceleration policy,” Hughes said. “All grade levels and courses have experienced major shifts in content with Kansas College and Career Standards.”
Course content has changed in order to meet the rigorous standards set for each grade level and course. Hughes said some new content has been added to all grade levels and courses.
Following the presentation, parents will have an opportunity to ask questions about the various math course options offered to middle school students.
All sessions will be from 6:30-7:30 p.m.
