The City of Olathe has received notification from BNSF Railway that it will begin extensive maintenance on railroad tracks and crossings in downtown Olathe beginning Thursday, Sept. 29, at 5 a.m. The work will result in closures at the following locations:
- Harrison St.
- Kansas Ave.
- Elm St.
- Dennis St. (adjacent to Keeler St.)
The Harrison St. crossing will reopen on Thursday, Sept. 29, after 9 p.m. The remaining crossings will reopen on Saturday, Oct.1, after 9 p.m.
BNSF advises that the simultaneous closures are necessary because 40 different types of machinery will be used to perform the work, which includes removal and replacement of the railroad ties and gravel under the rails.
Message boards are posted and detour routes are provided on the attached map.
