Barbara Ann Kern, 81, of Spring Hill, KS passed away Dec. 14, 2016.
Memorial service will be 11:00 am Monday, December 19, 2016 at Bruce Funeral Home, 712 S Webster, Spring Hill, KS, 913-592-2244. Visitation will begin at 10:00 am before the service at the funeral home. Inurnment at a later date at Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens, Olathe. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Prairie Paws Animal Shelter, 3173 Hwy K68, Ottawa, KS 66067.

Barbara was born Jan. 20, 1935 in Ottawa, KS to Charles Theodore and Edith Maebell (Mossman) Baker. She graduated from John P, St. John Memorial High School, Olathe. Barbara was united in marriage on Oct. 18, 1953 to Harold Franklin Kern in Fontana, KS. She was a bookkeeper for Safeway, H & H Auto Repair, Lenexa, KS and a manager for Interstate Securities in Kansas City. Barbara was a member of the United Methodist Church of Lenexa and the Pilot Club of Lenexa. She enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, embroidery and gardening. Barbara made baby quilts for her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She will be dearly missed by family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter-in-law, Norma Kern; sister, Dorothy Henness and nephew, Craig Henness. Barbara is survived by her husband, Franklin; son, Michael Kern; daughter, Janet Kern; granddaughters: Tasha Hopewell (Jeremiah) and Amanda Bitter (Rob); brother, Homer Baker (Sharon); great-grandson, Brant Bitter; great-granddaughter, Charlotte Bitter and many nieces and nephews.
