1928-2016
George Edward Meyer, 87, passed away Tuesday evening, March 29, 2016 at his home in Hillsdale, KS after complications from open heart surgery.

George was born October 6, 1928 in Olathe, KS and was one of six children to Clarence and Marie Enright Meyer. George lived in Olathe and Lenexa, KS before moving with his family to Jewell County in western Kansas, where George helped out on the family farm. He joined the Air Force and was stationed in Alaska, where he was a baker during the Korean War. He then returned to Overland Park, KS and met his wife Emma at a night out at the American Legion, where Emma was dared to sign his cast with her phone number, which he wore for a broken leg. They married in August of 1966, lived in Prairie Village, KS and George worked as a foreman installing ceiling tiles in many buildings across the Kansas City metro area.

Many times, no matter where he was, he could tell a story about hanging tiles nearby. In 1979, George and Emma moved to Hillsdale, KS, where George continued to install ceiling tiles, but also farmed. He worked extremely hard, but loved to tell stories, and enjoyed all types of wildlife. He had multiple dogs and barn cats (his latest and most favorite Sissy), that he absolutely adored, along with deer, turkey, ducks and the many birds he fed that lived on his farm. He had the most ornery smile and loved to make people laugh and to spend time working on various projects with his grandson, Tim.

George leaves behind his wife of almost 50 years, Emma Meyer, Hillsdale, KS; and a son, Ron Beeves (Cindy), Paola, KS; as well as three grandchildren, Wendy, Timothy (Melissa) and Jessica (Aaron), and five great-grandchildren. He also leaves behind a brother, Leonard Meyer (Marilyn) Wichita, KS, and two sisters, Ella Marie Whitworth, Shawnee, KS and Cecilia Budke, Hays, KS.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Frank, and his sister, Mary “Sister Consilia” Meyer.

The family is grateful for the care George received from St. Luke’s Hospice. In lieu of flowers, the family wishes that contributions be made to the Kansas Department of Parks and Wildlife, Habitat Improvement and Restoration Fund, under the Wild Trust, KS Dept. of Wildlife, 512 SE 25th Ave., Pratt, KS 67124-8174.
