Hobart Lawrence Coffelt, 106, of Olathe, Kansas passed away Saturday, March 19, 2016 at the Olathe Good Samaritan Home.
Hobart was born February 20, 1910 in Horton, Kansas. He was the son of Albert F. and Margaret Gattermier Coffelt. He moved to Olathe in 1913 with his family to a farm east of town. He married Dorothy Helen Patrick on June 20, 1931. He has been a member of Olathe First Christian Church since 1937. He was employed at Santa Fe Railroad from 1938-1948, Sunflower Army Ammunition Plant, and R. L. Sweet Lumber Co from which he retired in 1972. He loved wood working and made wonderful tables, lamps and other things that his family wanted.
Mr. Coffelt was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Dorothy; his son, Lawrence Hobart Coffelt; an infant daughter; his brothers, Norman Coffelt and Raymond Coffelt; and his sisters, Thelma Aronson, Belauh (Mickey) Coffelt.
He is survived by his sisters, Ruth Kimmi, Gladys Slocomb, Ruby Moss; his sons Robert E. Coffelt with wife Jane, Tom Coffelt, Jerry Coffelt with wife, Sally; and a daughter, Joyce Blackman, along with numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will 11am, Saturday, March 26th, at McGilley & Frye Funeral Home, 105 E. Loula St, Olathe, with a burial in Olathe Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10-11am prior to the service.
