James Edward Dunn, 79, of Olathe, Kansas passed away at home surrounded by his loving family on Sunday, July 10, 2016. He fought a long battle against Parkinson’s and Dementia and is free at last. He lived his entire life a man of integrity, honesty, understanding and forgiveness. He will forever be remembered as a devoted husband, loving and loyal father, grandfather, great grandfather, uncle, brother and friend to everyone he met.

James was born on November 16, 1936 in Joplin, Missouri to Edward and Dorothy (Chamless) Dunn. Stationed in Germany, he served his country honorably in the United States Air Force. Jim retired from working for the Federal Aviation Administration as an Air Traffic Controller for 41 years. Jim saw beauty in nature as a gift from God for all to enjoy and passed that enthusiasm on to his children and grandchildren. His faith in God was incredible and family always came first to him. The sound of children was “music to my ears” and “the more, the merrier”, was how he felt about the presence of loved ones his entire life.

Jim is preceded in death by his parents; Edward and Dorothy Dunn and his son, Joseph Edward Dunn. He leaves behind his loving wife of 41 years Carolyn S. (Dickey) Dunn of the home, ten children; Carol Ann and Shayne of Paola, Kansas, Tina of Olathe, Kansas, Wendy and Matt of Olathe, Kansas, Tess and Rob of Kansas City, Missouri, Tracy and Jeff of Olathe, Kansas, Aimee and Dave of Colorado, Jennifer and Josh of Olathe, Kansas, John James and Tessa of Bonner Springs, Kansas, Jamie and Matthew of Olathe, Kansas and Sarah of Olathe, Kansas. Brothers, Daryl, Bob and Thomas. Left behind to cherish his memory are his 29 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. He will be missed and fondly remembered by all who knew him.

Jim will be cremated according to his wishes. A private family “Celebration of Life” will take place on Sunday, July 17th. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to: OMC Charitable Foundation(OMCCF) Hospice 20375 W. 151st. St.
