James “Jim” Joseph Welchert, 73, of Edgerton, KS, passed away in his home July 29, 2016, cremation.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 1002 W 3Rd St, Edgerton, KS from 1 – 6:00 pm Saturday, August 6, 2016. Inurnment at St. Columbia Catholic Cemetery in Gardner, KS, at a later date. Memorial Contributions may be given to the New Century Young Marines. Arrangements: Bruce Funeral Home, Gardner, KS 913-856-7111.

Jim was born September 25, 1942 in KCMO to Emerence Mary (Fermyn) and Joseph Herman Welchert. He grew up in Oklahoma City. The family moved back to the Kansas City area where he graduated from Shawnee Mission North High School. Jim served in the U S Marine Corps with the rank of Corporal. Jim married Joyce L. Neeley on September 2, 1967 in Overland Park, KS. He was the warehouse manager for Fleetrite Truck Parts in Lenexa for ten years, retiring when he turned 62. They made their home in Gardner, moving to Edgerton four years ago. He was a member of Divine Mercy Catholic Church, and the Knights of Columbus, 4th Degree. He was a member of the Gardner American Legion #19. He liked to fish, play cards and enjoyed golf “on the Wii”. Jim loved his family dearly, his God, and the Marine Corps. He will be missed very much by family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Welchert and Emerence Wilson, his young daughter Samantha in 1987, brothers Gary Wilson and Richard Fermyn. Jim is survived by his wife Joyce, of the home; daughter Michelle Martin and Mike of Eudora, KS; special daughter Monica Hayden Carroll and Brent; grandchildren Jeff Crist, Kylie Turpen and Dylan Carroll; two great grandchildren and two on the way; special cousin Bill McKean of Oklahoma City, OK; sister Pat King of N C; many nieces and nephews.
