Leona Fay McClure, 91, of Olathe, Kansas, passed away Friday, January 08, 2016. She was born December 10, 1924 to Frank Sheridan and Edna Marian (Underwood) Downing in Tarkio, Missouri.
Leona was the youngest of the girls and she was daddy’s little tom-boy. She loved to ride the horses rounding up the cattle, jumping fences against daddy’s wishes, playing with her pet lamb Andy and riding her horse to town.
She received her BS in Education and taught in Olathe and the surrounding area. In June of 1953 she married Harry McClure at the First Christian Church of Olathe where she was the Choir Director for many years.
After retirement, she continued teaching piano, voice and instrumental music lessons for several years in the home. Leona was a member of several music organizations. Music was a very important part of her life. She was an avid dog lover. She enjoyed making scrap books of animals, poems and loved sending and receiving greeting cards. Family celebrations were very important to Leona. She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Leona was preceded in death by her husband, Harry Ross McClure and two sisters, Marian Downing and Neva Hartman.
Leona will be cremated according to her wishes with private graveside services in the Masonic Cemetery in Jamesport, Missouri.
