Mary A. Holtgraver, 97, of Baldwin City, KS, formerly of Gardner, KS passed away June 1, 2016 at Comfort Care Home of Baldwin.
Visitation 10:00 am with Mass of Christian Burial 11:00 am Sat., June 4, 2016 at Divine Mercy Catholic Church, 555 W. Main, Gardner, KS. Burial follows at St. Columbia Catholic Cemetery, Gardner, KS. Mary was born Dec. 9, 1918 in Baileyville, KS to Bernard J. and Clara R. (Nolte) Kramer. She grew up in Baileyville. Mary later moved to KC to work for an insurance executive family. She married Omar B. Holtgraver on Jan. 5, 1942 in Baileyville, KS. They moved to their farm in Bucyrus in 1942 and then purchased their farm in Gardner in April 1949. Mary was a member of Divine Mercy Catholic Church and the Women’s Altar Society, 4-H, Gardner Grange, EHU, Needle Club, the Ladies Rural Community Auxiliary Fire Department and the Buzz’n Dozen Couples Card Club for years. She started the prayer chain in 1990 for Divine Mercy Catholic Church. Her interests were ceramics, quilting, the Royals, flowers and gardening. Mary will be dearly missed by family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Omar, in 2004; siblings: Alma Haug, Bernard Kramer, Betty Baldwin, Leoba Kramer, Clarence Kramer, Walter Kramer and Alvin Kramer. She is survived by sons: James B. and wife Donna Holtgraver, Gardner, KS, Omar “Junie” and wife India Holtgraver, Ottawa, KS and daughter, Jayne and husband Bill Heitman, Bucyrus, KS; seven grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren and one on the way.
