Melvin Eugene Soper, 72, of Eudora, KS passed away April 20, 2016 at Olathe Medical Center.
Memorial Service will be 10:30 am Thursday, April 28, 2016 at New Life Community Church, 17935 S Moonlight Rd, Gardner, KS 66030. Visitation 6-8:00 pm Wednesday, April 27, 2016 at Bruce Funeral Home, 106 S Center, Gardner, 913-856-7111. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Urban Christian Academy.

Melvin was born November 19, 1943 in Chariton, IA to Herbert Eugene and Leoan Oliva (Petty) Soper. He grew up in Olathe, graduating from Olathe High School in 1962. Melvin served in the United States Air Force for four years. He was based out of Michigan during that time and once he completed his service he moved back to Olathe. In the 1970s, he moved to Eudora. Melvin married Pamela Sue Hanlon June 20, 1975 in Olathe, KS. He served as a Deputy Sheriff for the Johnson County Sheriff’s Department for 32 years. Melvin was a member of the New Life Community Church, American Legion Dorsey-Liberty Post 14, Lawrence Masonic Lodge #6 and Scottish Rites of Lawrence. He enjoyed riding his motorcycle with the Blue Knights International, which is a Law Enforcement motorcycle club, the Patriot Guard and the American Legion Riders of Lenexa. During his spare time, Melvin also loved hunting, fishing and knife making. He will be missed by family and friends.
Melvin was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Pam of the home; brother, Gary George Soper and wife Denese of Whittmann, AZ; sister, Janice Lee Martin and husband Doug of Red Oak, OK and his five dogs: Moose, Tiki, Ling-Ling, Sheba and his princess, Margarita.
