Opal Orene Williams, 89, of Gardner, Kansas passed away surrounded by her loving family on Thursday, May 11, 2017 at Evergreen Community of Johnson County Nursing Home in Olathe, Kansas. She will forever be remembered as a devoted mother, loving grandmother, great grandmother, great great grandmother, sister, aunt and friend to everyone she met.

Opal was born on September 4, 1927 in Seymour, Missouri to Eli Lanzly and Eva Fern (Fuller) Cantrell.

Opal worked at Johnson County Nursing Home, starting in 1964. For 13 years she served as a laundry aide, eventually becoming laundry supervisor. While continuing to work in that role, she was encouraged to join the nursing department and to take certified medication aide (CMA) classes. While stressful to her, she completed the classes and received her certificate.

For 10 years she worked as a CMA, and she was proud, often telling family and friends of her accomplishments. Upon retiring from Johnson County Nursing Home in 1987, she moved to Seymour, Missouri then eventually returning to Olathe, Kansas to be near her children.

Opal is preceded in death by her parents Eli and Eva Cantrell, husband, Lawney Olen Williams and brother Welbert Lanzly Cantrell. She is survived by her four children, Gene Olen Williams and his wife Sarah of Osawatomie, Kansas, Patricia Darlene Parker and her husband Edward of Gardner, Kansas, Nora Jane Most and her husband Lannie of Gardner, Kansas and Jerry Dale Williams and his wife Rosella of Olathe, Kansas.

Left behind to cherish her memory are her 19 grandchildren, 54 great grandchildren and 13 great great grandchildren. She will be sadly missed by her three sisters, Hazel Marie Williams, Thelma Eva Seal and Martha Dean Ince. Four brothers, Walter Eli Cantrell, Lendel Glenn Cantrell, Hairl Cantrell and Clarance Dale Cantrell.

Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 16, 2017 at the McGilley & Frye Funeral Home 105 East Loula Street Olathe, Kansas. Graveside service 1:00 p.m. in Liberty Cemetery 373 Hargus Road Seymour, Missouri. Visitation 6:00-8:00 p.m. Monday, May 15th at the funeral home.
