Terry Lee Heathman, Jr., 44, of Gardner, passed away November 21, 2016.
Funeral Services will be 10:00 am Tuesday, November 29, 2016 at Grace Baptist Church, 650 E Madison, Gardner, KS. Burial will be 12:30 pm Tuesday, November 29, 2016, at Leavenworth National Cemetery, Leavenworth, KS. Arrangements: Bruce Funeral Home, Gardner, KS 913-856-7111. Terry was born January 25, 1972 in Emporia, KS to Betsy Ann (Garr) and Terry Lee Heathman. They lived in Strong City, KS and moved to Gardner when he was in the 8th grade. He enlisted in the U S Army right after graduating from Gardner Edgerton High School in 1990. He served for a total of 8 years including time overseas in Germany where he deployed to Desert Storm. After returning from Desert Storm, Terry was stationed in Ft. Drum, NY and was assigned to the 1st Platoon 10th MP Company “Renegades”. While stationed at Ft. Drum, Terry was deployed to Somalia, the Battle of Mogadishu and Haiti, Operation Uphold Democracy. Terry met Stephanie Anne Dumont who also was serving in the U S Army. They married on May 27, 1995, in Watertown, NY, and made their home in Gardner. After his military service, Terry served 12 years in the Johnson County Sheriff’s Department, transferring to the Adult Residential Center for the Department of Corrections for five years and last year became an investigator for the Department of Corrections of Johnson County in Olathe. Terry was a member of Grace Baptist Church and the De Soto VFW. Terry enjoyed hunting and fishing with his son, reading, and learning more about history. “He never knew a stranger”. He will be dearly missed.
Terry is survived by his wife Stephanie, of the home; son Terry Lee Heathman, III; parents Terry and Betsy Heathman; sister Lynnette Turner and nephew Xavier Turner, all of Gardner and grandmother Roberta J. Allen of Cottonwood Falls, KS.
