William J. “Bill” Kelly, 77 of Olathe, KS passed away August 29, 2015 at Meadowbrook Rehab in Gardner, KS.

Visitation will be Tuesday, September 8, 2015 at 5:00PM followed by a Memorial Service at 6:00PM at Bruce Funeral Home, Gardner, KS 913-856-7111. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association or the Alzheimer’s Association.

Bill was born January 26, 1938 in Conway, AR. He was a 1956 graduate of Pine Street High School in Conway. He attended Franklin University in Columbus, OH and the University of Wisconsin in Madison.

Bill proudly and honorably served his country as a member of both the Air Force and Army. During his term of service he received numerous medals and commendations along with having top secret security clearance. Bill would often talk about his time in Korea and events during the Korean War. Bill was stationed at Richards-Gebaur Air Force base when he exited his military career in 1965. In 1968 he worked for the Department of Defense.

In 1977 Bill started his lifelong career at Honeywell International. During his time at King Radio (Honeywell) he met the love of his life Sylvia J. Doyle. Bill and Sylvia were together for 34 years and nurtured a loving extended family. After retiring from Honeywell in 2004, Bill served as Commissioner for The Olathe Kansas Human Relations Commission. Bill loved to read, enjoyed bowling, had a passion for cars and was an avid Chiefs and Royals fan. He was deeply loved and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

He was preceded in death by his mother Irma Lee Wilson, step-father Luther Wilson, sister Mary Jane Kelly and step-son Rickie Dean Frydendall.

Bill is survived by his wife Sylvia, of the home; half–sisters: Helen Kelley, Margaret Stuckey and Juanelle Buyck. From his first marriage, son, William Kelly; daughter, Jane Walker (Reggie Walker), grandchildren: Kelli Franklin (Joseph Franklin), Marcus Millentree, Jeremiah Walker and great-granddaughter, Sa’Raya Bland. From his extended family with Sylvia, step-daughters: Starr Plowman (Mike Plowman) & Renae Cardera; grandchildren: Misty DeRemus (Daniel Jones), Ashley DeRemus (Ira Timmons), Derrick Plowman, Amijo Cardera and great- grandchildren: Haylee Jones, Eliza Jones, Skyla Timmons, MaKenzi Jones & Ira Timmons III.
