Thanksgiving – A time for celebration and safety

The Thanksgiving holiday is a time for celebration, family and friends. Although safety in the kitchen is always crucial, the threat of fires in the kitchen triples on Thanksgiving Day, according to the Consumer Products Safety Commission. Home cooking fires occur more often on Thanksgiving Day than any other day. Help ensure a safer Thanksgiving holiday celebration with these tips:

Stay in the kitchen when frying, grilling or broiling food – unattended cooking is the leading cause of home cooking fires.
Keep things that can burn like towels, paper, curtains, etc. away from the stove top.
Wear short, close-fitting or tightly rolled sleeves when cooking – loose clothing can catch fire.
