Kansas City is the most up-and-coming city in the country, according to a new ranking list.

The Huffington Post ranked Kansas City as the most exciting, “it” city in the United States. The food, Midwestern hospitality and music were all highlighted as reasons to visit the metro area.

“Get to the Green Lady Lounge for some jazz, eat awesome BBQ at Q39, and don’t forget to check out the historic City Market,” Huffington Post Associate Lifestyle Editor Carly Ledbetter wrote. “The food is amazing, nearly everything is affordable, and the people are nice.”

Trying something new to buy elections

An article in the Huffington Post reveals new efforts by the billionaire Koch brothers to funnel dark money, monies that do not have to be reported, into avenues that support the election campaigns of Republican candidates.

Their efforts to buy the 2012 elections failed miserably and, according to the article, a “rebranding” of ways to funnel money to GOP campaigns is underway.

Ouch! Kansas, the purple state

Kansas Gov. Sam Brownback recently said in his State of the State Address, “Look out, Texas, her comes Kansas!”

The following is an interesting view on what is taking place in Kansas politics during Brownback’s reign. It’s by Huffington Post freelance writer Jeffrey Ann Goudie, who grew up in Midland, Texas, and now lives in Topeka having moved to Kansas several years ago.

She says despite its national image of being a red state, Kansas actually was a good mix of all views making it a progressive purple. But because Brownback, et al, has made the state so red because of his aggressive attack policies on public education, social programs, and tax cuts, the state is now purple because of bruising.

Message from the rich is clear: Vote Romney or get fired!

It’s bad enough that there are so many people in this country, Democrats, Republicans and Independents, who don’t take the time or interest in finding out for themselves which political candidate might best represent them.

Sadly, too many of them cast their ballots based on the political propaganda they see on television. Some get their directions from religious leaders. Others simply wait until they receive in the mail the candidate endorsements from the political action groups they support. For example, Kansas Republicans have Kansans for Life endorsements and Kansas Democrats have Mainstream Coalition. Continue reading
