Single vehicle accident kills driver

The Johnson County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a single vehicle crash at 164th and Lackman.

On Thursday, July 7, at approximately 5:50 p.m., a driver of a Dodge 1500 lost control on Lackman Road near 164th and hit a telephone pole. The impact flipped the vehicle, which landed on it’s roof. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene.

The investigation continues into the cause of the accident.

Sheriff’s Office to conduct career fair

career fairThe Johnson County Sheriff’s Office will conduct its first career fair from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday, May 7, in the Johnson County Administration Building, 111 S. Cherry St., in downtown Olathe.

The Sheriff’s Office is looking for deputies and civilian specialists. Every division of the Sheriff’s Office will be represented in order to share what we do. This will provide the opportunity for job seekers to personally meet the men and women of our organization.

Multiple Sheriff’s Office vehicles, jail tours, and onsite testing will be conducted.

Gardner woman killed in accident

The Johnson County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a fatal crash that killed Tina Boka, 44, Gardner, this past weekend near the intersection of 151st Street and Old 56 Highway in western Olathe.

According to the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office, a sedan driving southbound on Old 56 Highway lost control and crossed over into the northbound lanes, striking a pickup truck head on.  A juvenile passenger in the sedan and the driver of the pickup truck sustained non-life threatening injuries and were transported to nearby hospitals for treatment. 

Their names have not been released.

Bokay, the driver of the sedan, suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

This incident remains under investigation by the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office.

Child killed in Spring Hill accident

The Johnson County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a fatal crash that occurred in the 20900 block of Woodland Road in Spring Hill, Kansas.

On Wednesday, December 9, 2015 at approximately 4:04 p.m., officers were dispatched to a pedestrian versus vehicle crash in the 20900 block of Woodland Road.  A child was struck by a black pickup truck traveling northbound on Woodland Road.  The child suffered fatal injuries.  The driver of the pickup truck did not sustain any injuries.

This incident remains under investigation by the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office with assistance from the Spring Hill Police Department. 

Phone scam alert

The Johnson County Sheriff’s Office has received multiple reports of scammers identifying themselves as Sheriff’s Deputies in an attempt to solicit money. Scammers are using Caller ID Spoofing, which results in the telephone network indicating to the receiver of the call that the call is originating from a legitimate Johnson County Sheriff’s Office number.

The scam involves a person calling and identifying themselves as a deputy or supervisor with the Sheriff’s Office. Scammers have gone so far as to give actual names of active employees. The caller tells the potential victim they have a tax warrant or a warrant for their arrest. The caller then instructs the potential victims to purchase some form of gift card and send it to the caller in order to avoid arrest. Continue reading

Fed cuts force end of local drug take back program

Due to Federal funding cutbacks and regulation changes that affect the destruction of collected prescription medication, the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office will no longer be participating in the Drug Take Back Program.

The Sheriff’s Office has one collection site located on the first floor of the Johnson County Courthouse that will no longer be available for drop off after Saturday, July 4, 2015.

Kids handgun safety and awareness seminar June 6

The Johnson County Sheriff’s Office is hosting a Kids Handgun Safety and Awareness Seminar Saturday, June 6 for children ages 5-12.

There will be two classes offered this Saturday, June 6 from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. and 12:00-2:00 p.m.  Parents interested in registering their child can contact Jackie Smith at 913-715-5598.  Registrations are limited to the first 30 registrants. Continue reading
