County cities seek residential understanding

Crews from the cities of Lenexa, Olathe, Overland Park and Shawnee continue working non-stop to clear snow from city streets.  Each jurisdiction has made significant progress clearing arterial streets.

However, the volume and heavy nature of the snow is impacting every jurisdiction’s progress clearing residential streets, and refreezing will further add to the challenge.

Each city will be directing as many resources as possible to residential areas and working around the clock to clear them.  However, the cities of Lenexa, Olathe, Overland Park and Shawnee are reminding residents that clearing residential streets will take considerably longer than a typical storm.

Additional information about street plowing is available on each city’s respective website:  Lenexa:; Olathe:; Overland Park:; and Shawnee:

Two in custody after car chase

Shortly before 9:30am, Jackson County, Mo., deputies followed a stolen vehicle into Johnson County.  After the car left the roadway in an attempt to escape, two white males were taken into custody.

The incident began in Lone Jack, Mo., when two calls of suspicious activity were reported.  Jackson County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the area in Lone Jack and attempted to make a stop for questioning.  The stolen vehicle, a white SUV, fled the scene and began evasive driving.  The deputies followed with the assistance of a helicopter.

The suspects continued into Kansas where the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office, Lenexa Police Department and Kansas Highway Patrol gave their assistance in stopping the vehicle.  Lenexa deployed stop sticks and the vehicle eventually stopped along a wooded area off of Kansas Highway 10.  One subject was taken into custody while another remained at large.  K-9 officers located the subject not far from the abandoned vehicle and he was taken into custody without incident.
