Memorial Day Closures

City of Olathe offices will be closed on Monday, May 27 for the Memorial Day Holiday.  Trash and recycling collection will not be impacted.

The Olathe Public Library, 201 E. Park and the Indian Creek Branch, 12990 S. Black Bob Road, will be closed Sunday, May 26 and Monday, May 27.

Storm Debris Pick-up

Due to Sunday’s storms, the City of Olathe will take bulk pick-up requests for storm debris collection this week only.  The free bulk pick-up service will occur on your regular collection day. Customers with a Monday collection day will be serviced on Monday (5/27).  Continue reading

Fire safety rolls in Olathe

In an effort to help make families safer, the “Fire and Life Safety Experience” brings safety information to third grade elementary students in more than 30 Olathe schools each year. The Fire and Life Safety Experience is a “hands on” safety house on wheels.

Inside the house, children hunt for home hazards in a kitchen and living room and practice a fire escape from the bedroom. Firefighters use theater smoke, in the bedroom, to simulate a real fire while children get low and crawl to their best exit. In this case, the door is warm and children must use their second exit which is a window with short ladder at the back of the safety house.

At 9 a.m., Thursday, May 16, Olathe’s Fire and Life Safety Experience will be at Ridgeview Elementary, 1201 E. Elm.

Indian Creek Trail Detour Planned

Beginning in early June, sections of Indian Creek trail between Black Bob and Pflumm will be closed to accommodate construction of the 127th Street Improvement project.  Detours will be provided.  Trail users are asked to follow the detour signs and use extra caution in and around the detour areas. The project is planned to begin June 3 and expected to last 18 months. Celebrate Safe Drinking Water May 6-10

For more than 35 years, water utilities across the country have joined the American Water Works Association to celebrate the important role of drinking water during the month of May.  The City of Olathe recognizes the vital role that water plays in our daily lives.  Our water systems are critical to maintaining public health, economic vitality, fire protection and quality of life.
