Storm threat postpones Olathe graduation ceremonies

The threat of severe weather forced Olathe District School officials to postpone Sunday night’s graduation ceremonies at all high schools. They were rescheduled for Monday night, May 20.

The school district posted the following note on its website:

“Graduates, your families and your friends…

Our weather service and local safety officials continue to suggest that the likelihood for the most severe weather associated with this storm will arrive in our area between the hours of 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. As a result, a collective decision has been made to postpone the ceremony until 7 p.m. Monday, May 20. (Doors will open at 5:00 p.m.)

Severe weather is already occurring a few hours south of our area with resulting graduation cancellations. Information about the rescheduling of Project Graduation for tomorrow night will be sent from each individual high school.

We sincerely regret the inconvenience, but stand by the conviction that we will always err on the side of safety for our students, their families and our staff.

Again, our sincere regrets.”
