Olathe news briefs for the week of Sept. 21

City Council

The Olathe City Council will meet Tuesday, Oct. 6, at 7 p.m. in the Council Chamber at City Hall for a regular session. Regular sessions are broadcast live on OGN (Comcast channel 7, AT&T channel 99 and on the City’s website).  For a recap of the previous Council meeting, visit the City Clerk’s webpage.

Mahaffie Wild West Days Saturday, Sept. 26 and Sunday, Sept. 27
Enjoy Wild West skits, live entertainment, and children’s games at Mahaffie Stagecoach Stop’s annual Wild West Days, Saturday, Sept. 26 and Sunday, Sept. 27.  This popular event offers visitors a variety of experiences and live entertainment to provide a taste of life in Kansas during the Old West.

Wild West Days will be held 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday at the Olathe historic site, 1200 E. Kansas City Rd. Family-friendly admission is $5/person ages 5 & up or five people for $20; youth ages 4 and under are free. Food will be available for purchase. Free Olathe Kids Fishing Derby date

The 32nd Annual Free Olathe Kids Fishing Derby has been scheduled from 7:30 a.m. to noon on Saturday, June 15, at Cedar Lake Park, south of 151st Street on Lone Elm Road, Olathe.

Registration begins at 7:30.

Registered participants receive a free T-shirt, goodie bag, and worms while supplies last. Everyone in attendance receives a free hot dog lunch with chips and water.

Five trophies are awarded to participants in various age groups and gender categories. Prizes are awarded based on random drawing from the registration numbers.

The event is sponsored by several groups, businesses and organization in cooperation and partnership with the Olathe Parks and Recreation Department.
