Standoff in Olathe

Olathe police along with members of the Kansas Fugitive Apprehension Task Force are involved in a standoff in Olathe Friday night, July 8. When task force officers attempted to make contact with Carlos Gonzalez, 21, who is wanted on multiple felony warrants, he barricaded himself inside the home.

The standoff is near 144th and Ashton. Officers currently are trying to safely resolve the standoff.

The task force, consisting of U.S. Marshal’s Service, Kansas Department of Corrections, Overland Park Police Dept, Wyandotte County Sheriff’s Office, and Immigration Customs Enforcement along with the Career Criminal squad, which is made up of U.S. Marshals, KCMOPD, ATF and FBI, developed information that Gonzalez was at a specific address in an Olathe neighborhood.

The Task Force requested assistance from Johnson County Law Enforcement, and members of the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office Warrant’s unit, tactical team, and the Olathe Police and Fire Departments responded.

Early morning robbery at Olathe Applebee’s

Olathe police are investigating an aggravated robbery that took place about 4 a.m., June 15, at the Applebee’s Neighborhood Grill on South Harrison Street.

According to police reports, two white males confronted a store employee and demanded money. During the course of the robbery, the employee sustained a minor injury. He was taken by Johnson County Med-Act to a local hospital. There were no other employees at Applebee’s.The only description available is that one of the suspects is approximately 6 foot tall.

Victim, suspect identified in Olathe homicide

The 38-year-old man who was shot and killed Wednesday night, March 30, at the Double Nickel Bar & Grill near Santa Fe and I-35 in Olathe has been identified as William “Billy” Ray Schutkesting, Olathe.

The 28-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the murder is Michael Chinn Jr., Augusta, Kan.

It is not known if the two knew each other.

According to Olathe police, officers were called to the scene in the 100 block of South Rogers Road about 11:39 p.m. There they found the Schutkesting with a gunshot would to the chest. He died at the scene.

An Olathe K-9 officer and his partner found Chinn who had crossed I-35 and took him into custody.

Man shot to death in Olathe’s Double Nickel bar

A 38-year-old man was shot and killed Wednesday night, March 30, at the Double Nickel Bar & Grill near Santa Fe and I-35 in Olathe. A 28-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the murder.

According to Olathe police, officers were called to the scene in the 100 block of South Rogers Road about 11:39 p.m. There they found the victimu with a gunshot would to the chest. He died at the scene.

Police looking for suspected identity thief

suspect 1 suspect 2The Olathe Police Department is seeking the public’s assistance in identifying this male in regards to an identity theft. The suspect allegedly took a wallet from a nurse station at a rehabilitation facility.

The victim’s credit cards were used to make purchases at several businesses in Olathe and Overland Park totaling over $1100 dollars.

I-35 fatality victim identified

The 58-year-old man struck and killed by a vehicle early Thursday morning, Dec. 3, on southbound I-35 between 127th Street and Santa Fe, has been identified as Michael Seaman, Olathe.

According to Olathe police, the Seaman was in the highway when he was struck just before 3 a.m. He died at the scene. There were no other injuries. Police later found Seaman’s vehicle near the area but don’t know why he entered the highway on foot.

Olathe 7-Eleven robbed

Olathe police officers Sunday, Nov. 1, were dispatched to the 7-Eleven store in the 1500 block of south Hamilton Circle in reference to an aggravated robbery at about 3:30 a.m.

Two clerks saida black male, in his 50s or 60s, had threatened them with a handgun and demanded money. The clerks described the suspect as wearing a black hooded sweatshirt over a white T-shirt, gray sweatpants, dark colored tennis shoes, and wearing a red, white, and blue top hat. Continue reading
