Honoring “Bobio”; a man I didn’t know

Robert J. “Bobio” Brewer, 69, of Merriam, Kansas, passed away November 11, 2013, at his home.

I didn’t know Robert “Bobio” Brewer. Neither did the more than 30 other members of the Patriot Guard who escorted him on his final journey to the National Cemetery in Leavenworth on Tuesday morning, Nov. 19. There was no funeral service at the Amos Family Funeral Home in Shawnee.

Public Service Announcement: Wreaths Across America

Fort Leavenworth National Cemetary

For the fourth year I am participating in the Wreaths Across America Fort Leavenworth National Cemetery event. The date is Saturday, December 14, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. location is the base of the American flag pole located in the middle of the cemetery.

Again, I am asking for help in raising awareness of the service of our fallen heroes, our active duty military and our military veterans at the event and funds to help sponsor wreaths to place on our deceased veterans graves. The section of the cemetery we have chosen this year is section “M”. There are approx. 3,800 graves in this section alone. We have over 20,000 in the cemetery and had 1,072 sponsored last year.

Nov. 10: Free Meals for Veterans:

Veterans can stop into your local McCormick & Schmick’s on Sunday, November 10, 2013 to get a Veterans Day free meal. Bring in official verification. This offer is for dine-in only.

Nov. 11: Veterans Day Free Meals:

Stop into any Hy-Vee grocery store with in-store dining and get a free breakfast on Monday, November 11, 2013. You’ll get to choose from a wide variety of breakfast foods set out on a buffet. Find a Hy-Vee near you and call to confirm that they are participating and the hours of the free buffet.
