McCoy slowly improving after surgery

Olathe City Councilman, Wes McCoy, continues to recover in a Pittsburgh, Pa., hospital after suffering a heart attack and then undergoing open heart surgery last week.

According to a family spokesman, his wife Nancy says McCoy had issues with his heart not beating normally after the surgery and had to have it shocked three times back to normal rhythm. But now, he is recovering and improving. She said there are less tubes and he’s had his first food in four days, a lot of water and ice, and has been sitting in a chair watching television.

After the heart attack, two of three arteries were cleared, but because of calcium buildup, the third artery ruptered requiring the open heart surgery.

Nancy now is staying in the hospital where rooms are reserved for family and patients, according to the spokesman.
