go library fire stationgoLibrary opens at Olathe Fire Station 6
The Olathe Public Library has opened a goLibrary kiosk in the public entrance to Olathe Fire Station 6, 24200 W. College Blvd. The goLibrary is a unique locker system that allows library patrons to pick-up holds, return materials, browse the catalog, place holds, and check accounts. Mahaffie Wild West Days Saturday, Sept. 26 and Sunday, Sept. 27
Enjoy Wild West skits, live entertainment, and children’s games at Mahaffie Stagecoach Stop’s annual Wild West Days, Saturday, Sept. 26 and Sunday, Sept. 27.  This popular event offers visitors a variety of experiences and live entertainment to provide a taste of life in Kansas during the Old West.

Wild West Days will be held 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday at the Olathe historic site, 1200 E. Kansas City Rd. Family-friendly admission is $5/person ages 5 & up or five people for $20; youth ages 4 and under are free. Food will be available for purchase. Digital Sandbox event Thursday, Sept. 17 seeks to engage Olathe entrepreneurs

Many cities are trying to attract startups. Now, with a unique partnership between the City of Olathe and the Digital Sandbox KC, residents and businesses in Olathe can apply for grants to help turn their ideas into business starts.

The Digital Sandbox KC and the City of Olathe are hosting an interactive event Thursday, Sept. 17, from 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. at Olathe City Hall for early-stage entrepreneurs who want to take the next step. Often, proof-of-concept support is a barrier: typical Sandbox grants are between $20,000 and $25,000. Continue reading

Wastewater Collection Program Receives Collection Systems Award from KWEA
The City of Olathe Wastewater Collection Program has received the Kansas Water Environment Association (KWEA) Collections Award for 2013. The award is presented to an individual or municipality for outstanding and significant contributions in the area of wastewater collection. Criteria for this award include operation/maintenance, safety/training, improvements/innovative ideas, planning/design, and customer service. The City also received the award in 2011 and 2012. Music Fills the Air at the FREE Olathe Summer Concert Series July 19

The sounds of the Austin music scene hit Frontier Park on Friday, July 19, with the Band of Heathens and Mingo Fishtrap. Award-winning The Band of Heathens kicks the night off at 7:00 p.m. with its Americana/Rock and Roll sound. Fan favorite Mingo Fishtrap will finish out the night with its soul and funk flavor.

Each week the concert series collects audience donations to benefit a local charity. The July 19 show will benefit the Mayors Christmas Tree Fund. Continue reading
